Twenty-seven BISD students received diplomas from Boerne Academy in commencement ceremonies Wednesday, May 31. This is the largest graduating class in the Academy's history.

Superintendent David Stelmazewski praised the students' perseverance in pursuing their high school degrees, which he said not only will serve them well in the future but will also benefit future classes of students who attend the Academy. The perseverance of students like today's graduates, he noted, helped elevate the profile of the Academy throughout the community and made a strong case for including a new Academy facility in the 2016 bond. Next year, Boerne Academy will be located in the newly reconfigured facility that was the former Fabra Elementary School.

Members of the Class of 2017 include Zack Alamilla, McKinzie Bickford, Belicia Brewer, Bree Burge, Chase Burgess, Jennifer Burk, Sarah Carlson, Charles Christal, Vanessa Garces, Madison Garza, Marissa Haggerty, Tanner Harwell, Nicole Johnson, Delaney Kreusel, Madison Lambiase, Alyssa Maldonado, Israel Mora, Taylor Morris, Matthew Nolan, Alyssa Owens, Kaitlyn Peel, Casey Rahm, Christopher Shelman, Hannah Shrager, Ryan Snell, Paul Swan and Joshua Voss.

The Boerne Academy is a non-traditional school of choice within the Boerne ISD. The Academy offers an opportunity for selected students to choose an alternative education path in a supportive, caring and positive school environment.
